AISI 4340 Alloy Steel (UNS G43400) AZoMTopics Covered
General characteristics of Alloy Steel 4340 4340 is a nickel chromium molybdenum alloy steel known for its toughness and its ability to attain high strengths in the heat treated condition. It has very good fatigue resistance.
About 4340 (E4340) Alloy Steel AISI 4340 (E4340) alloy steel is a medium carbon, low alloy steel known for its toughness and strength. Machining is done typically in the annealed condition. 4340 steel properties offer good ductility in the annealed condition, allowing it to be bent or formed.
AISI 4340 (E4340) alloy steel is a medium carbon, low alloy steel known for providing a good balance between strength and malleability. Alloy 4340 is composed of (descending in order by weight)iron, nickel, chromium, manganese, carbon, molybdenum, silicon, phosphorus and sulfur. With proper working and strengthening, items made from 4340 have excellent wear and durability qualities.
Remember that 4340 is a 0.40% carbon steel, and carbon is the prime alloying ingredient with respect to properties. The nickel, chromium, and molybdenum merely effect the cooling rate necessary to get those aforementioned structures.

Essentially it is a modified AISI 4340 steel with silicon, vanadium and slightly greater carbon and molybdenum content than 4340. 300M has a very good combination of strength (1900 2100 MPA after final heat treatment), toughness, fatigue strength and good ductility. 300M is a through hardening alloy.
AISI 4340 is a heat treatable, low alloy steel containing nickel, chromium, and molybdenum. The inclusion of nickel improves hardenability. Regarded industry wide for its toughness, 4340 supplies high strength in the heat treated condition while still maintaining excellent fatigue strength over time.

4340 Alloy Steel Pennsylvania Steel Corporation offers an alternative to SAE 4340 alloy steel. We produce FLEXOR® steel to be similar if not superior in its mechanical properties to 4340 alloy steel. Taking this into account, it is suitable and can be utilized in
In this work, the mechanical properties and microstructures of AISI 4340 high strength alloy steel under different tempering conditions are investigated. The specimens are quenched and tempered to a martensite structure and loaded to fracture at a constant strain rate of 3.3×10 4 s 1 by means of a dynamic material testing machine (MTS 810). The mechanical properties and strain hardening
